Georgia may increase electricity tariffs in 2021

Electricity tariffs may be increased in Georgia in 2021. At the end of 2020, electricity tariffs set by GNERC 3 years ago, revision of which is inevitable in light of existing global and local economic problems.

Specialists and experts in the field of electricity consider it inevitable that electricity tariffs will increase, which, in their opinion, is necessary for the survival and normal operation of the energy industry. Commissioner for Human Rights in the Energy Sector Salome Vardiashvili, who is actively involved in this process, believes that today there are all the prerequisites for increasing electricity tariffs in Georgia.

According to Salome Vardiashvili, the pace of tariff increases will be different for the consumer and commercial sectors.

“Naturally, the tariff for the commercial sector will increase several times compared to the increase in the consumer tariff”
said the Energy Commissioner.

Previously, electric power companies and experts did not exclude that the electricity tariff for the household and commercial sectors would increase by an average of 8 tetri.

Потребление от 101 кВтч до 301 кВтч соответственно составляет 15.435 и 18.213 тетри, а от 301 кВтч и более 19.265 и 22.733 тетри. The existing tariffs were established by GNERC in 2017, and their validity period is set from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020 inclusive.
