A dialysis unit has opened in Khulo for patients with kidney failure, and similar services are also now available in Akhalkalaki, Kvareli and Martvili.
Previously, residents of these municipalities were forced to travel several times a week to other cities, which caused health, time and cost problems.

What is Dialysis and why is it so important in Georgia
There are two main types of dialysis: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. In hemodialysis, the blood passes through a special filter in the dialyzer, where it is cleaned and then returned back to the body. In peritoneal dialysis, a special solution is injected into the abdominal cavity through a catheter, which removes toxins and excess fluid through the peritoneal membrane.

Dialysis does not completely replace the functioning of healthy kidneys, but it can maintain life and improve the quality of life of people with chronic kidney failure. This is an important procedure for people suffering from serious kidney disease who are unable to effectively remove toxins from the body.
